Her birthplace was in Birmingham, Alabama and developed an interest in acting when she was a youngster. She enrolled to study architecture at Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC; however, she soon left her studies to pursue a fulltime acting career. The actress made her film debut when she starred in the film 'Down Twisted'. She started gaining notoriety after appearing in one of her most prominent role in the horror slasher film 'Scream'. The film was popular commercially and made 11 times the budget. It was also appreciated by public and critics. Cox reprised her part in all the three sequels to the movie. Her fame soared to new heights after she played the lead role in the acclaimed sitcom "Friends'". She received several awards and nominations for her performances.
