Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, her grandmother and her godparents. Her father abandoned her family. As a young girl, she struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She also experienced anxiety because of the word"association. Ford's love for acting grew when she was young. She was a part of in the National Youth Theatre. Ford gained entry to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but decided after a week that she was a poor for the school. Ford was then able to apply to be a student in the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared in TV programmes such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London's Burning in the Nineties. Tate was a regular performer on stage, and joined The Royal Shakespeare Company's season 2000-2001. Tate began to gain attention because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
